This
optional module allows the use of Client/Server databases.
DocuWare ODBC enables an SQL database, such as Oracle or
MS-SQL-Server/NT, to be used as an alternative to the
standard DocuWare database. The true client/server
architecture of these increasingly popular databases
minimizes network traffic.
Architecture
In order to utilize
the DocuWare ODBC module, a database must be defined for
each DocuWare file cabinet. Each database must be installed
using the appropriate tools or SQL commands.
At the network
workstations, DocuWare 3.1x accesses the database server
through the DocuWare ODBC interface. The communication
between the DocuWare ODBC interface and the database server
is accomplished using the drivers of the individual
databases.
The
New DocuWare Result List
DocuWare ODBC
features a new 32-bit result list with extreme flexibility:
- The result list window
can be sized to any length or height by using the mouse.
- For each individual file
cabinet, you can determine which database fields will be
shown in the result list.
- You can swap columns and
change the height and width of each column.
- All functions such as
paging, displaying, printing and exporting can be done
easily through icons, buttons and key combinations.
- You can define which
functions will be made available through icons and
buttons for each file cabinet
- The complete database
information can be displayed and edited in an info box.

Flexibility
Experienced database
administrators may use SQL queries to retrieve information
directly from SQL databases. In addition, by complying with
the DocuWare specific database structures and by preserving
the data integrity, database information can be modified
directly.
